Meet Dr. Michael J. Spink
Michael Spink, DDS, MD, FACS, is the Chief of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery at Baystate Medical Center. He practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise in surgical oncology of the oral cavity, salivary glands, and facial skin and skeleton. Originally from Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Dr. Spink completed his residency program at Bellevue Hospital in New York City after completing general surgery internship, medical school and dental school at New York University. His residency training included surgical procedures, such as: dental implants, dentofacial deformities, facial trauma, sleep apnea, temporomandibular joint, wisdom teeth removal with sedation, and oral cavity and salivary gland tumors. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Additionally, he completed a one-year fellowship in head and neck cancer and reconstruction at the same institute, and also in Kochi, India at the Head and Neck Institute of Amrita Medical Institute. This fellowship serviced a vastly diverse population from New York as well as India’s overpowering morbidity and mortality from head and neck cancers.
Dr. Spink returned to Western Massachusetts to fulfill the overwhelming community need for facial reconstruction and oral health. He provides patient care for Western Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut and Southern Vermont areas at the office and Baystate Medical Center.
Several peer-reviewed manuscript author his name, and he is currently penning a book chapter regarding the management of oral squamous cell carcinoma. When not in the office or hospital, he is an avid outdoorsman who also enjoys cooking and novels.
